The races will start at 1:00 pm in the school courtyard. We will need a few volunteers to help set up everything starting at 12:00 pm and a few to help tear down afterwards. If you are interested in helping out the Pack, this is great way to do so. Please email Bill Hobensack (email@example.com) if you are interested. Here are the race times (please arrive 15 minutes prior to your race time for check-in):
Webelos II: 1:00 pm
Webelos I: 1:15 pm
Bear: 1:30 pm
Wolf: 1:45 pm
Tiger: 2:00 pm
The race will be a double elimination tournament for each den. Trophies will be given to the 1st/2nd/3rd place finishers in each den (they will be handed out on 9/28). In the rules it states to only use the parts supplied in the BSA kit. We are a little flexible with this as long as you use some common sense. If your son wants to superglue a Lego figure to the boat or add decals and paint, that’s fine. If you want to attach an electric outboard motor or rocket engine, that’s not okay. We’ve never had a problem that couldn’t be quickly corrected before the race but the final decision regarding the interpretation of the rules resides with Bill and Tom.
There is a race entry fee of ONE CANNED GOOD to be donated by the Pack to the Mandarin Food Bank (don’t worry if you are driving to the race and realize you forgot the can, we’ll still let you race). Kits were handed out at the 8/31 meeting. If you still need a kit, we will have them at the Ice Cream Social on Monday 9/14.
