Pinewood Derby

The Pinewood Derby is one of the most popular and successful family activities in Cub Scouting. Pinewood derby cars are small wooden models that Cub Scouts make with help from their families. Then they race the cars in competition.  Every boy can design and build his own “grand prix” car to enter in the race.

Pack 473 races its pinewood derby cars in January each year. Prizes are awarded in several categories for design and painting, and of course the big honors are won on the track. Typically, each den races several heats to determine a den winner. At the end of the day all of the den winners race for the pack championship.  This year we may even add sibling and adult divisions!
